Could hypnosis for menopause symptoms be the solution you’ve been looking for?
Thousands of women suffer from uncomfortable menopause symptoms. And many just pray for relief, any relief from night sweats and hot flashes. If you or someone you know is suffering with these symptoms, could menopause hypnosis help?
Menopause, that often dreaded transition a woman goes through from being a woman of child bearing state to being a woman of non child bearing state. The natural process of menopause is something every woman will go through in her life. It’s as natural as aging and can often feel a whole lot worse. Many women dread the onset because of the perceived loss of being able to have children and not being a ‘true’ woman any longer. Still others dread the hot flashes, which are often the focus of horror stories from well meaning older ladies who have gone through menopause.
Some try to joke their way through (“ever notice how every awful thing women have to experience begins with the word ‘men’?). Several TV sitcoms have dealt with characters going through menopause and often make jokes about ‘standing in a freezer’ or ‘jumping in a pool of ice’. Still others silently grin and push through.
The signs and symptoms vary from woman to woman but most will rank hot flashes, weight gain, wild mood swings, fatigue and utter tiredness, stress, body changes such as vaginal dryness and loss of sexual feelings, enjoyment or desire are close to the top of their all time worse complaints.
How can such an inevitable process be more bearable? Are there tricks to surviving menopause? Below are a few tips to help you through this period of transition.
First… what exactly IS menopause?
Menopause is defined as the absence of a woman’s menstrual periods for at least twelve months. It is the time in a woman’s life when the function of the ovaries ceases and she will become unable to conceive and bear children. It does not occur overnight, but rather is a gradual process which can vary in the length of time it takes.
The average age of menopause is fifty one years old. However, menopause may occur as early as when a women is in her thirties or as late as when she is in her sixties. There is no reliable lab test to predict when a woman will experience menopause and no test to truly determine when she will begin to experience the signs and symptoms common with this process. The age at which a woman starts having her menstrual periods is not related to the age of menopause onset.
Second… What, if anything, has proven to help women get through menopause as painlessly, quickly, and with the less interruptions to daily life activities?
Many women swear by alternative therapies and medicines. St. John’s Worth is an herb some women swear lessens the signs of menopause and helps ease hot flashes. Other herbal treats include herbal supplements such as black cohosh, evening primrose oil, dong quai, flaxseed, maca, omega-3s, pollen extract, vitamins and ginseng.
Please remember: herbs and herbal remedies, like any medication, cause different reactions in different people. Just because one or more of these herbs helps your best friend, doesn’t necessarily mean they will work for you. Your reaction to these herbs will vary from any one’ else.
Always consult your doctor or nurse practitioner before attempting to start any of these herbal treatments. You may have a medical condition or be taking a prescribed medication which prohibits use of these herbs. Or that could be harmful or dangerous to your health.
Other women swear by yoga and meditation. Both of these methods are gentle ways to help rid your body of stress. In addition, they may give you more energy and a feeling of content, and can help ease the flush of hot flashes.
Still other women believe in acupuncture. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that entails stimulating certain points on the body, most often with a needle penetrating the skin, to alleviate pain and stress. It is based on the theory that the body’s energy, called ‘chi’, flows through the body is certain paths and streams. If the stream is ‘blocked’, the body experiences negative feelings, such as stress and/or pain. Or in the case of women going through menopause, hot flashes, weight gain, tiredness, and other symptoms. Unblocking the stream through the insertion of needles will get rid of the bad traits the person doesn’t want.
Most promising of all, however, is an article recently released by the North American Menopause Society. This society spent several years conducting controlled experiments (in other words, trials where the women were more or less significantly the same, did not have other chronic illnesses or diseases, and were roughly the same age). In these several studies, women experiencing hot flashes, often to the point of having moderate to severe life interruptions, found relief from their symptoms through menopause hypnosis. Clinical hypnosis was in fact found to be the sole thing and method which provided the most women the most relief. (Over 74% relief with clinical hypnosis compared to 17.4% for the control group). In fact, these studies were so compelling on the effectiveness of menopause hypnosis, that the NAMS conducted them a second time on a different group of women. And a third and fourth time on other groups of women. In each trial, the results were the same: More women found relief from their symptoms through menopause hypnosis than any other method or supplement, including the ones mentioned above.
So is hypnosis for you? Can it help you?
The only true way to know is to try. Since hypnosis is non evasive and does not include any needles or supplements to be taken, it is also considered by many women to be the most safe. This is especially true and helpful for women who have a chronic disease such as diabetes or are cancer survivors and those who take a medication where herbal supplements might interact and cause bad effects upon the mind and/or body.
In addition, hypnosis is a painless way to not only help with the signs and symptoms of menopause, but cause also help you deal more effectively with stress, anger management, weight loss, smoking, and other life interruptions. You also can help get rid of those feelings of loss from not bearing able to have children or the sadness of a major life transition.
You may benefit form much more than simply getting rid of hot flashes. You can have a better and higher quality of life. And don’t we all want that?
If you are seeking a non medical or alternative method to help ease the signs of menopause, you may want to seriously consider hypnosis.
